How can I spot accumulation and distribution on stock charts?

I have a question in relation to how to read a chart. I do not know how to identify whether investors are accumulating a stock or distributing a stock. Do you know if there is any technique to identify these situation?

Some investment book said prior to a company's share price advances, it will go through an accumulation stage. Or prior to a company's share price drops, it will go through a distribution stage. I wonder how to identify this period in the weekly or daily price chart.
