Ask Colin

Do you place stop-loss orders with your broker?

No. I might use them when when I am travelling if I was particulary concerned about a stock.

I find I have internet access these days most places I go in the world. When travelling recently in South America I was out of easy internet contact for two weeks. Only one stock hit its stops in that time and I did not have to rush to sell when I returned. It is rare that as an investor I have to act very rapidly on stops.

Of course, if  I were a trader, it would be different. Then I would sell all my positions before I went away if I did not have internet contact every day.
